Utilizing Backdrops At Photography Studios

By Mavic Herring

The use of backgrounds for photography is indispensable for any photography studios out there. Without the use of backdrops, photographs will not appear as beautiful as they are particularly when the backdrops are utilised to set the mood. Backdrops can dramatically change any photography studio into a completely different setting and add some life to an otherwise dreary location. Backdrops also change the reality of the desired setting of a photograph, based on the vision of the subject and photographer.

Employing the use of backdrops at photography sessions is a brilliant way of adding some stylishness to an otherwise boring photography studio background. Backdrops also add a touch of style and an image of professionalism to photographs as well as aesthetically enhance the overall quality of the photo. Backdrops can also give the illusion that the subject is standing in front of a genuine scene and not in front of a mere cloth.

1. Paper. Some studios make use of plain or printed paper which can be bought by bundles or by the yard at hardware shops. The problem with paper, although readily available, is that it wrinkles and tears easily as well. It is incredibly cheap though and photography and videography studios could make do with it for Do-it-yourself sets and productions.

2. Muslin Backgrounds. Muslin has been available for centuries and is one of the most favored fabric of people of high status back then. Nowadays, muslin is merely an ordinary textile that's a favorite among photographers and set designers for its adaptability and softness. It also drapes any wall naturally and can be handpainted with no difficulty. It is often fabric for the chroma-key technique.

3. Faux Wood Floorings. Ever thought about why the set of magazine photographs all have great floorings? Some sets really have impressive floors while others don't. So what does the set designer or photographer do about it? They set up faux wood floors on the set of course. Interestingly, the floors can also be used as a wall backdrop to achieve a vintage home interior look for the photograph.
